One of the highlight of my visit to Malang on December 2013 is the Secret Zoo in Jatim (stands for Jawa Timur) Park 2. This park lies in Batu, East Java, Indonesia. It takes about 20-30 minutes (depends on traffic) from Malang by car to reach this place. Batu is a small town with bowl-shaped, surrounded by mountains, which make it has a cooler average temperature compared with Malang. In the same park, you can visit Eco-green Park and Animal Museum as well.
The Secret Zoo offers you a lot to enjoy with a low ticket price (IDR 65,000 during the weekdays for zoo and museum). It has a huge collection of unique animals from South America, Southeast Asia and Africa. Most of the animals are not commonly found in other zoos in Indonesia. There are information board for all animals, including their names, original and status of conservation. Here are just a few examples.
Although from the front door, it seems like the zoo is not that big, it is a huge place. It takes about 3-4 hours to explore all parts of the zoos plus watching some attraction. The detailed of the zoo design took my attention, both the walking way and the different building that they built to keep the animals. It is also clean and well-maintain. The owner (or government?) must spent a lot of investment on this. There is a small amusement park for kids, that adults can use too (if you are not too shy), which is FREE. Children must love this place, and parents as well 🙂
In the same area, there is a hotel named Pohon Inn (Tree Iin) where you can spend your night if you wish too. Me and my friends had our lunch in the hotel restaurant, which having a rolling floor viewing 3 different animals. It has good food, cheap, clean and friendly service.
Here are few pictures of the animal museum.
